*I do not work with the insurance company on your behalf to ANY degree and make no guarantees of coverage. It is the client's responsibility to check coverage with the insurance company for the specific modality of treatment that we agree to (such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems, or DBT). It is also the client’s responsibility to check for coverage for Couples/Family Therapy CPT Code 90847 and for Individual Therapy CPT Code 90837. I am not responsible for insurance refusal.

Out of Pocket Individual’s Session, 45 minutes to an hour: $135

Out of Pocket Relationship Counseling, 45 minutes to an hour: $165
*The number of people in session does not change the cost of the session for relationship counseling. I will meet with each partner individually multiple times for check-ins to hear their side to keep things balanced, and I will meet with both/all partners together as well, for the same investment.

I offer a limited number of sliding fee slots as well. Please ask for details and current availability.

Q: Why are your rates so comparatively low? Is your work quality?
A: I work with a delightfully diverse clientele, and a sickening aspect of our world is that diversity and financial privilege often do not come together. I have thus lowered my price point to be more accessible to the people I love to work with. I have not forgotten my own impoverished background and the fact that my divorce from my childhood sweetheart might have been prevented if we had been able to afford couple’s counseling. Though I am still needing to make a living (read: pay off private school student loans) and thus can only offer a limited number of sliding fee slots, I honestly try to help as many people as I can while still sustaining myself. I am able to keep costs down by working from my home office instead of a ritzy brick and mortar location, and I instead choose to invest my profits where they matter- in continuous training to improve my skills for you. I’m here to help, not flex. All my sessions are thus virtual through HIPAA-compliant doxy.me, and I hope you don’t mind mischievous CATS!

Q: Why do you offer both insurance and out of pocket payment options?
A: Firstly, privacy. Again, I welcome a wonderfully diverse clientele, and sadly, privacy before insurance companies has become a concern for many. Some people would rather keep all information private by paying out of pocket.
Secondly, Insurance companies will also only treat mental health conditions. They MIGHT pay for your relationship therapy, but only in as much as someone- the “identified patient” on record- has a mental health diagnosis that is creating a problem of functionality within the relationship. You MUST have a mental health diagnosis to use insurance and the focus must include mental health, not just intimacy or connection or to stop fighting with each other. Some people do not have a mental health diagnosis, do not want to go on record as having one, or would prefer to focus solely on relationship concerns.
Thirdly, life coaching concerns for self-esteem, building a business, finding meaning and purpose in life, unblocking creativity, and so on are not covered by insurance. But I have been a longtime life coach and it is work that I love, and I want to be able to offer this opportunity to my creative Unicorns.
But, as cost is a concern for many, and mental health challenges are real, I offer insurance options to be able to reach more people and offer more options.

Please Note: In order to work on mental health concerns, you MUST have CURRENT diagnoses for these through a psychiatrist or PCP that I have a signed release of information to work with. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Q: Who do you work with? Are there any types of work you don’t do?
A: Individuals, Plurals/Systems, couples and polycules that are 18+ and are residents of New York State are all embraced. I serve all of NY, but you MUST be located at your home address in NY at the time of session. I welcome everyone from Furries, Wiccans, Thelemites, professional doms, bikers, hikers, painters, rappers, janitors, priests, business owners, spiritual seekers, authors, accountants, college professors, you name it.
I do not work with psychosis, domestic violence, sexual addiction, sexual dysfunction, child rearing/ pregnancy, or pending/active divorce or disability cases.

Q: As a Marriage and Family Therapist, why do you work with things other than just relationships?
A: Many years as both a mental health provider and consumer taught me the importance of acknowledging and treating mental health diagnoses seriously- a relationship will only be as healthy as the people in it. Though many mental health diagnoses have a genetic/biochemical component, that aspect is often exacerbated to being “clinically significant” not just by neurology but also by unsupportive or ill-informed family members/partners, a rigid home or work environment, stress, trauma, poor self-esteem and a poor understanding of one’s one strengths and weaknesses through that condition. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Bachelor’s in abnormal psych, I take a systemic approach to improving life all around for someone with a diagnosis. I promote neurodiversity and neuroplasticity over the medical model that claims people are broken and need to be fixed and that locates the problem in the “broken” person rather than in the whole of improving their life and relationships.
